2020 Kayak Nationwide Tournament Schedules for KBF, Hobie BOS and BASS

2019 was an amazing growth year for kayak bass tournaments with major players stepping up to get a piece of the fastest growing sector of the bass fishing industry. This of course has all the kayak bass anglers pumped up for 2020, which has a new entrant into the mix which is none other than the OG - Bass Angler Sportsman Society (B.A.S.S.).

With the FLW / Major League Fishing (MLF) merger we are still awaiting confirmation only on the affiliations with Kayak Bass Fishing’s (KBF) KBF Pro Tour, which is set to go with or without it. Last years introduction onto the national stage was exciting, and having the opportunity to compete at the Nickajack Lake event was epic for me, being a long time angler with dreams of being on stage. Close but no cigar, which was my entire tournament season’s story. But I digress…

Now that we have all of these major events around the country, the first thing us anglers need to do is digest the options, our budgets, and our available time for travel and practice. Now that there are multiple national titles available to capture, some for the very first time we have big decisions to make. Most of the kayak anglers, probably 99.99%, are not sponsored in a way that they can travel the country and fish all the events. Entry fees seem to all be reasonable, so the main decision is going to come down to travel expenses and time off from work.

Considerations for making goals:

• What National or Regional Angler of the Year (AOY) title is more important or appealing to you?
  
• Do you even care about an AOY title?
  
• Do you just want to qualify for the championship(s)?
  
• How many events can you attend?
  
• What trails are friends doing that can share travel expenses?
  
• Which trail works better for your real life’s schedule?
  
• Are you competitive enough?
  
• Is your spouse still going to be your spouse if this continues?
  

The last 2 items are not very important for me. I’m not married and I have an affection for bass fishing competition. I believe that I can win a tournament on any given day regardless of data suggesting otherwise, as most of us do. Which is the main reason why we continue to chase that dream!

The other option is to fish all the events as they sweep by your region, giving a chance for bigger paydays, great competition and bragging rights on a national stage. This is a huge benefit of having multiple national trails that some overlook. Especially for anglers that have families, jobs and/or a limited budget that restricts them from traveling around the country. There are also regional trails as well as local trails for consideration to meet with just about every person’s situation, even those with a spouse that expects to see their significant other at some point throughout the year.
