KFL Week 3 Recap

The Kayak Fishing League season has seen every team compete at least twice during the first 3 weeks of the 2022 season. For some teams, it was an opportunity to save their seasons while for others it was a chance to solidify their division leads. Week 2 so several big upsets, so for some teams it was a chance to redeem themselves. For others, it was time to fish like their seasons depended on it.

KFL has six divisions divided into two conferences (South and North). With three divisions in each conference, every event has a high value within the divisions and the overall conference standings, which ultimately determine which teams continue fishing in the post-season.

About the KFL

In the team format, a team’s 10 longest fish are measured against the other team’s 10 longest. The team with the longest 10 fish limit wins the game. Individual anglers are also tracked in the standings to determine KFL Angler of the Year as well as a KFL fantasy league that awards points to each competitor.

Week 3 Results

Most of the country faced clear fishing conditions, with overcast or sunny skies and light, variable winds. In the mid-Atlantic and eastern states of the South, a front dropped air temperatures dramatically and brought some strong winds.

12 games were played involving 24 teams. There were several notable results.

  • The closest finish was in the game between the Rhode Island rebels and the Massachusetts Maulers, which the Maulers won by a length of 178.5” to 177.5”.
  • The largest margin of victory belonged to the Arkansas Hawgs, who defeated the Lone Star Bandits of nearly 155”, with the final score of 174” to 20.75”.
  • Three of the week’s five longest limits were caught in the southern division, while two were from the northeast.
  • The week’s longest team limit belonged to the Arkansas Hawgs (see above).
  • The week’s top angler was Florida’s Coley McGowan, who landed 176.25” in the Kingfishers’ win.

After 3 weeks of competition, only the Arkansas Hawgs, Coosa Kingfishers and Granite State Sticks remain undefeated.
