KFL Week 6 Recap
Summer bass fishing can be unforgiving. Bites can be hard to find and every mistake feels like a disaster. Sun and heat compound errors so you feel like you are battling the elements as well as the other team and the fish. If anyone needed confirmation of these facts, they had only to look at the early results during Week 6 of the 2022 Kayak Fishing League.
24 teams competed in 12 games on the morning schedule. In those 12 events, the team that eventually won the day had a substantial lead after 3 hours of competition. In several cases, the lead was insurmountable. In fact, in 10 games out of 12, the team that held the lead at mid-morning went on to win the event. For example:
- Granite State Sticks led RI Rebels 170.25- 97.25 at mid-morning. Sticks won 172.25-165.5.
- PA Bronzebacks led NY Empire 133.25-64.25 at mid-morning. PA won 174.75-116.
- Florida Copperheads led Sunshine State Swamp Donkeys 159.5-20.25 at mid-morning. Florida won 171.25-109.
Week 6 Results
Week 6 went a long way in clarifying the teams favored to qualify for the KFL playoffs. After week 5, three undefeated teams remained. One of them (Motor City Ambassadors) fell in week 6, leaving two undefeated teams (Coosa Kingfishers and Granite State Sticks). Entering the final third of the season, the Kingfishers and Sticks appear to be the favorites to finish with the best records in their respective conferences.
In total, 13 games were played involving 26 teams. There were several notable results.
The closest finish was a 2.5” margin of victory. It happened in the game between the Bay State Attack and Massachusetts Maulers. Unlike the other games, it had been a close game all morning.
The largest margin of victory belonged to the undefeated Coosa Kingfishers, who defeated the Carolina Casters by a margin of 188” to 14”. For perspective, the Casters had only a 2-man team to field for the event (lost several players to injury and other tournament commitments).
The Natural State Eagles are the league’s new team, and they won their debut event against the Oklahoma Outlaws.
The Indianapolis Knights avenged their close loss the previous week, handing the Motor City Ambassadors their first loss of the season. The two teams have concluded their home-and-home series, and are separated by a single loss in their division.
The Northeast division now has four teams with a record of 2-3.
Week 7 of the Kayak Fishing League season be on August 13, 2022. Fans can follow the leaderboard on Fishing Chaos or watch live stream action of the games on KFL’s Youtube channel and the Motion Sports website.
About the KFL
KFL has six divisions divided into two conferences (South and North). With three divisions in each conference, every event has a high value within the divisions and the overall conference standings, which ultimately determine which teams continue fishing in the post-season. The minimum length of a scoreable bass is 14”. All fish are caught, measured and quickly released.
In the team format, a team’s 10 longest fish are measured against the other team’s 10 longest. The team with the longest 10 fish limit wins the game. Individual anglers are also tracked in the standings to determine KFL Angler of the Year as well as a KFL fantasy league that awards points to each competitor.
