Minors Take First and Second at Susky

Leading up to the Susquehanna event anglers were all over social media excited about the potential for smashing smallmouth bass all weekend. Known for being loaded with smallmouth bass, the Susquehanna (Susky) rarely seems to disappoint anglers. Hobie BOS again hit its max capacity limit with 200 anglers for this event which wasn’t a surprise with the reputation of the river. Was it going to live up to the hype?

Conditions

The river itself was very low making it treacherous for many anglers with pedal drives. Even anglers sporting the Hobie breakaways had to be on edge risking they may bust up an $800 drive. Some anglers breaking drives in practice had to cobble together a quick fix to be ready for the event. Weather was fair with some wind making paddling up river into the wind a challenge as well.

Day 1

After the leaderboard bounced around a while it settled down with Virgnia’s Nolan Minor taking the day with an impressive 95.5 inches of bronze backs. All of Nolan’s smallmouth were within 3 quarters of an inch from 18.75 to 19.5 inches. Abby Abbondanza from Pennsylvania followed just a couple inches behind with 92.75 inches. Nolan’s brother Ewing was right tin the mix in 3rd with 92.5 inches.

The only limits over 90 inches were the top 8 anglers, with 40 plus anglers posting up in the 80 inch range. Most anglers were able o put a limit together but didn't find the size needed to stay in contention.

Day 2

Nolan Minor had a good day 2 but was only able to put 92 inches compared to his day 1 95.5. Abby Abbondanza wasn’t able to match his day 1 performance and missed the mark with 88.75 inches. Ewing Minor however was able to put together a little better of a day with 93.25 inches but that wasn’t quite enough to catch Nolan who ended up with an 187.75 inch total for the 2 days and took home first place and a check for $10,500! Ewing was able to secure 2nd place and took home $5,500. Pennsylvania’s Jake Harshman put together 2 solid days to snatch 3rd place and a check for $3,200.

With a total of 1,956 fish submitted to TourneyX, the Susquehanna definitely still puts up both size and numbers of smallmouth bass making the event exciting and action packed!

Ewing Minor's finish puts him close to the leader Cody Milton for Anger of the Year with around 287 points (unofficial). Nolan looks to jump up into 3rd with 283 points. Cody still looks to be leading the Hobie AOY race with 292.1 which means it will take another top 10 finish for one of the Minors to jump into the lead.

What's Next for Hobie BOS

The next Hobie BOS event will be in Appleton, Wisconsin on August 20th - 21st at the Fox and Wolf Rivers which should be another great battle with both largemouth and smallmouth bass available for anglers to tangle with. Currently only 56 anglers have signed up for the event but there is plenty of time for anglers in the points race and looking for a Tournament of Champions spot to get in on the action.
