iCast 2024
came and a new kayak was released and on the demo pond gaining attention from the industry and pro fisherman alike. This long awaited addition to the Wilderness Systems line has been in the works for a while and is finally here, grabbing attention at the show. The new product also won Best In Show in the Boats and Watercraft category, so what do we think?

Overall First Impression

While some may see some familiar Pelican Bass Raider or even the Ascend 133T with its bow and hull design, it does have functionality and stability with a bow mounted trolling motor. Designed to keep the kayak from leaning away from a sharp turn will keep a standing angler inside the kayak.

The additional storage for gear and battery locations are great to keep the kayak balanced and giving room for moving around the deck with plenty of room. The access and accessory plates allow you to customize the kayak without permanently modifying the hull allowing you to change your mind and configuration with available replacement plates.

No need for 3rd party parts with the included motor mounting plates as well as being pre-wired for bow mount motors. The kayak come with a rotomolded molded battery tray in the back hatch. That being said you are good to go immediately without needing aftermarket solutions. Also with the kayak loaded with t-track you can add your favorite accessories without limitations.

Pricing estimated to be MSRP $2199 is a very competitive price range keeping it on par or below similar kayaks on the market design for motors. Adding your motor and 100ah lithium battery brings your total cost to approximately $4,000.

Coming in around 158lbs for the hull weight, this won’t be a drag it through the woods kind of kayak. A trailer likely needed, at minimum you will need a solid cart to get it to and from the water, preferable an access point with a paved ramp. A 600lb total performance weight capacity gives endless possibilities on what you can put in the kayak before you lose any performance.

The speed is also estimated to be 3.8-4.2 MPH with a Motorguide Xi3, or 4.8-5.2 MPH with a Torqeedo 1103. A little slower than some but on par with similar kayaks.

We are looking forward to getting our hands on this kayak to give a true Basstrail real world review!
